8 weeks is not long enough!

If you are a newbie show breeder of Angora rabbits, you need to be aware that only 8 weeks of age is definitely not long enough to keep your kits before picking your show prospects. I’ve seen so many people say things like, “I can’t decide which one to keep, and I can’t keep them all.”

However, the young rabbits go through so many phases in their growth, and change so much between weaning and maturity, that you need to keep them as long as possible before making your selections of which will be your show stars and parents of the next generation. You should plan to keep bucks until they are at least four months old, and does until they are at least six months old.

Linda Cassella said that for a long time, she thought that her doe, Silvertone Glorious, had a disappointing body. Then after the doe reached senior age, she came together in a spectacular way and won the 2012 ARBA Convention Best in Show.
