Chocolate tortoiseshell
Sometimes it is easier to identify a color when the rabbit is a young kit. This Chocolate Tort has a tan or orangish looking body with chocolate mask and points. Its eyes are brown; if the eyes were gray, and if the chocolate was dilute, then it would be a lilac tort. The kit in the background is tortoiseshell, or "black tort," which is tortoiseshell (ee, double recessive, of the extension gene, so that the colors black or chocolate is restricted to the mask and extremities) with the black color (BB or Bb). Its eye color is brown. -

Chocolate tort's eye
Non dilute, non-white colors (C/C or C/c or C/chd or C/chl) have brown eyes. -
Tortoiseshell (black)
"Black tort," BB/ee or Bb/ee. Black color gene with recessive extension, so color is restricted to the mask and points. Photo by BritnyLe LeGosz of her Satin Angora. -
Chinchilla
Chinchilla or "chin." This rabbit is black with the chinchilla gene (chd). Photo by BritnyLe LeGosz of her Satin Angora. -
Sable
Sable (chl). Image is from a photo of Charlotte Schweikart's ARBA convention 2012 Best of Breed French Angora winner. The eyes may have a ruby cast. -
Red (rufus)
Red is fawn (wide band and agouti) with the rufus modifier. This image is from a photo of Caroline Waskow's 2012 ARBA convention Satin Angora BOB winner. -
Black
This is a black Giant Angora; not yet an ARBA accepted color, but there are breeders who have Certificate of Development for it. The body wool of black Angoras will appear lighter than the more intensely colored "normal" fur on the face. This doe was bred by Colleen Spangle Wagner. Chestnut
Black with the agouti gene (Agouti/Black/Color/Extension) makes the Chestnut color. The hair shaft is banded. Bred by Colleen Spangle Wagner. Site: DustiBunni -
Pointed White
Pointed white with the black color, French Angora. The eyes are red. -
Chocolate
Chocolate (aa/bb/C/E/D). If it were dilute (aa/bb/C/E/dd) then it would be Lilac. Photo courtesy of Colleen Spangle Wagner: DustiBunni -
Copper
Agouti with black and rufus. (A/B/C/D/E) -
Fawn
Fawn is agouti with Wide Band. Fawn may be with either the black or chocolate genes, but there is usually less "smut" of the coloring when the underlying color is chocolate rather than black. (A/B or bb/C/D/E) -- when dilute (dd) then the color would be Cream. -
Blue tortoiseshell
Blue tort is black with tort and dilute: aa/B/C/ee/dd -
Gold tipped steel
Colored (non ARBA approved) Giant Angora doe bred by Janet Gruber (who is one of the fanciers working to get black Giant Angoras approved), owned by Joel Huebner. -
Sandy
"Sandy" is how owner Joel Huebner describes the color of this Giant Angora. Currently, the only ARBA approved color for Giant Angoras at shows is Ruby Eyed White. -
