Show news, new Facebook group

Moirai Flower, English Angora doe, at 7 months of ageSo far this fall, we have made it to only one rabbit show, a double show in Abilene, Kansas, on September 27. Our REW senior doe, Moirai Peugeot, was BOB English Angora in Show A, under judge David Kroenke. Peugeot is sired by Moirai Lutece, out of Ely’s Leslie. In Show B, Georgia Schafer’s black doe, Moirai Flower, was named 2nd Reserve in Show by judge Scott Rodriguez. Flower is sired by Starbuck’s Munchkin and is out of Moirai Elaine Marley. What made the show most enjoyable though, was getting to spend such a beautiful day in the company of my daughter and granddaughter.

In the earlier part of September, I had brought several of a friend’s rabbits home with me to care for, because she had been injured, and was recovering in the hospital. A couple of weeks later, she needed me to fetch the rest of her herd as well, to care for until she is back on her feet. Then I got a sinus infection, and between getting set up for my friend’s rabbits, and not feeling 100%, I was not interested in going to rabbit shows, and so I missed the shows in Garner, Kansas, and Hutchinson. I have decided not to go to the ARBA Convention, because I feel that my place is at home this year. So, I have only two more opportunities to attend shows this year, of the ones I normally attend. This wasn’t quite how I had anticipated my autumn to be this year, but I am still enjoying it, and am grateful for my blessings. My friend has also begun her recovery towards health and healing, which is a wonderful blessing.

I know that Kelly Flading and other members of the Southern Angora Rabbit Club are working very hard to offer Angora exhibitors from all over the country a comfortable and enjoyable ARBA Convention experience in Dallas/Fort Worth this year, from Nov 1-5.

Kelly Flading, Dr. Alfred Mina, and I have started a new all-breed Facebook rabbit group, “Dedicated Breeders of Quality Show Rabbits.” It is not our intent to have it become a large group, but we do hope it will be useful as a place for friendship, information, and support for rabbit breeders who are committed to breeding better show rabbits.

We are hosting a game on the group, for entertainment:

INVENT A NEW BREED OF RABBIT.
Be serious! Be silly! Whatever suits your fancy! Describe your new rabbit breed in the comments here. Give your breed a name. What is the standard for this fabulous breed the world cannot do without?
Wednesday, October 22, admins will set up a poll with the proposed new breeds, and we will vote. The 3 entrants getting the most votes will each receive a virtual “Dedicated Breeders of Quality Show Rabbits Certificate of Development,” with their names and the breed names on them, to proudly display anywhere they please. We are certain they will want to show it off everywhere! Who wouldn’t?

So far, entries include: “Hot-gora,” “Love Bunny,” “Nebraska Brown,” and “Dreadlock Woolies (Rastaman Woolies).”
